What CrawlerBros collects (very little), how Vercel Analytics and server logs work, how to contact us about data, and what we do not do.

Last updated 3 min readBy CrawlerBros Editorial

CrawlerBros is a static editorial site. It has no accounts, no comments, no newsletter, no advertising, and no contact form. This policy explains the small amount of data that still exists when a page is served, and what you can ask us to do with it.

What we do not collect

  • No accounts, passwords, or profiles.
  • No advertising identifiers or tracking pixels.
  • No cross-site behavioural profiles.
  • No analytics cookies of our own.
  • No data entered into a tool is sent to a server. The robots.txt tester, selector tester, sitemap validator, user-agent parser, header inspector, crawl-delay calculator, and cURL converter all run in your browser.

What is processed when you visit

Server and CDN logs. The site is served by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes request data such as the IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp, and response status in order to deliver the page and protect the service. Vercel's privacy policy governs that processing.

Vercel Web Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and referrers. Vercel's documentation describes it as privacy-friendly and cookie-free; it does not build a profile that follows you across other sites. We use the aggregate numbers to understand which pages are useful.

Vercel Speed Insights. We use Speed Insights to collect real-user performance measurements (for example, Core Web Vitals). These measurements help us keep the site fast. They are not used for advertising.

Theme preference. If you switch between light and dark, the choice is stored in your browser's localStorage under cb-theme. It stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can clear it through your browser settings.

Email

If you email us, we receive your email address, the contents of your message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use them to answer you and to investigate a correction, accessibility report, or security report. We do not add you to a marketing list, and we do not sell or rent the address.

Corrections may be published, but we do not publish the sender's email address unless the sender asks us to.

Where GDPR or the UK GDPR applies, the legal bases are:

  • Legitimate interests for serving the site, keeping it secure, and understanding aggregate usage (Article 6(1)(f)).
  • Consent where we rely on it for anything optional; the site currently has no optional tracking that requires consent.
  • Contract or pre-contractual steps if you ask us to do something for you by email (Article 6(1)(b)).

Retention

Vercel retains logs and analytics according to its own policy and plan settings. We do not maintain a separate analytics database. Email is retained only as long as needed to handle the matter and any follow-up, unless a longer period is required by law.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You may also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. To exercise a right, email info@crawlerbros.com. We may need to verify that the request is yours.

Because the site has no accounts, we often cannot identify a visitor from an IP address after the fact. We will tell you if that is the case rather than pretend otherwise.

Children

The site is aimed at developers and researchers. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

International transfers

The site is served by Vercel, which may process request data in countries other than yours. Vercel's privacy policy describes its transfer mechanisms.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the last updated date at the top changes and the change is noted in the corrections log. The current version is the one on this page.
